Kisumu County Assembly Speaker Onyango Oloo has weighed in on the controversy surrounding the purchase of iPads for the Wars Representatives.
Addressing the media, Oloo noted that the devices were important as they aided in running of the house affairs.
"In order to transact business of the House, we need to get our information real time, the comments on the bill early enough and real time so that we save on time, and are able to share knowledge and information widely amongst other members, " said Oloo as quoted by Citizen.
"This can only be achieved when each member is facilitated and enabled through modern communication systems and we opted for the cheapest way which is the iPad," he added.
Oloo noted that there was additional supplementary money in the treasury budget which was recently passed to cater for modernization of information technology.
Oloo's announcement comes days after the residents complained that the assembly was not keen on the priorities of its citizens.
A section of the locals noted that if the assembly moves on with the plan, the consequences will be dire.
