Kitutu Chache MP Richard Onyonka has dismissed a leaked whatsap conversation that revealed animosity between Gusii MPs and Kisii Governor James ongwae.
The incriminating conversation portrayed the vocal MP as a mastermind of mutiny against the Kisii County boss circulated in many social media platforms.
However, Onyonka, who spoke to this writer on Wednesday’s exclusive interview dismissed the conversation and accused Governor Ongwae of stage-managing the conversation.
“I have seen the screenshots but the group dubbed Elected MPs Kisii County is non-existence. I don’t recall an instance where my colleagues from Kisii interact on Whatsap. We normally text each other or call,” he said.
“The conversation is malicious and I strongly believe that it’s being stage-managed by Ongwae to justify his failures as pioneer governor,” Onyonka added.
While Onyonka did not hint taking specified actions, he urged residents to dismiss the conversation as a mere propaganda fronted by the governor’s office.
“As leaders, I don’t imagine that we can discuss county leaders regardless of our ideological differences. There is a proper way of doing it, so it’s important that the rumour is dismissed. I think you’d get the same response from all MPs mentioned in the text,” Onyonka added.
The conversation, which was largely in local dialect exposed how the MPs were disgruntled with Ongwae’s approach, accusing him of sidelining them and challenging him to give them a Sh1M monthly maintained fee for support.
Ongwae has fallen with all the nine county MPs and their differences became public when they snubbed a highly publicised Kisii County Investment Summit.
