Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka yesterday said Jubilee leaders had positive intentions for the Gusii region.
In an apparent shift from the hardline stance against Jubilee taken by his Nasa colleagues, the legislator told residents they were free to vote for President Uhuru Kenyatta if they so wished.
He said he had no problem with Jubilee presidential candidate Uhuru Kenyatta and asked residents not to point accusing fingers at his bid to retain the presidency.
Mr Onyonka said that he had been appointed as the county's Nasa presidential campaign team chair, saying he fully supported Mr Raila Odinga's bid for the country's top political seat.
"Mr Odinga has given me the chance to head his presidential campaign team in the county and that is an assignment I am fully focused on pursuing in order to ensure he makes it to State House," said Mr Onyonka.
Addressing worshippers at Iranda Catholic Church yesterday, the MP appeared to adopt a conciliatory stance towards Jubilee leaders, saying they too had a right to freely campaign for votes in the region.
“It is your choice whether to vote for President Kenyatta or Mr Odinga. Nobody should unfairly criticize or point fingers at the Jubilee candidate as he campaigns here because he means well for our community,” said Mr Onyonka.
He said the voters were free to choose their own candidate, asking them to exercise their democratic right in the August 8 polls.
“The choice on whom you decide to vote for is yours. Let no one coerce you into voting for people who cannot help you or fulfill your aspirations,” said the MP.
