Onyonka who was speaking during Citizen TV's Power breakfast show on Friday said most members of Parliament share the same view but are afraid to go public.

"We are rushing this exercise, we are pushing an agenda because people are not brave enough to say we push the elections forward to January or even March of 2018," he said.

"The timelines that we have put in place are not going to work, most of my fellow MPs share the same view but are afraid to express it because of their political differences," he added.

The MP said it is the fear that Kenyans would not accept an extended election date that was holding leaders captive to push the polls date.

"Kenyans want elections, they don't want anybody to tell them the polls cannot be held in August and of course as a member of Parliament, if you try to say the elections should be pushed forward, then your opponents will start using that to get the voters against you," he said.

On the disbandment of the IEBC, Onyonka said the outgoing commissioners should not undertake any business to avoid any blame on them in case of failure.

"What happens if they purchase the BVR kits and they fail? Are the outgoing commissioners going to take the blame?" Onyonka asked.

"The old commissioners should be left to go and the responsibility rested on the new bosses, so that any decision made they will be held responsible," he added.
