The joint committee comes with the proposal that seeks to stabilise parties by controlling members from jumping to rival parties after party primaries, a report that has since been adopted by the Senate but facing resistance in the National Assembly.

And now Onyonka has challenged MPs to amend the controversial clause saying it would save democracy in the country.

“Personally, I don’t support party hopping but I think the clause is discriminatory and should be resisted by all MPs who understand democracy. It throws the country into a state of anarchy that is unacceptable,” he said.

“Our party nomination processes are usually marred with a lot of electoral malpractices. I am a victim of such like when I won the ODM ticket in 2007 but it was given to another candidate. I went to another party and won in the general election,” added Onyonka.

Regarding his allegiance to the ODM party where he has been a chief critic, he maintained that he was willing to go to nominations and vowed to jump ship if he is rigged out.

“I am still in ODM and I am ready to compete with my opponents but that does not mean that I bow out of the race in case I am rigged,”he said.
