Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka has been subjected to social media ridicule after allegedly terming Gusii youths opposed to the Omogsuii unity ‘stupid’.
On Tuesday during an interview on a national Radio station, Mr Onyonka allegedly dismissed youths opposed to Omogusii unity as “pumbavu na wajinga” leading to online slaughter.
In their statement, the angered youths descended on the two-term legislator accusing him of being a fraudster with some citing the allegedly sugar smuggling case that he is facing in High Court.
“It’s unfortunate that a renowned sugar smuggler can call us stupid. He doesn’t know what we are made of and he should at first pay sugar taxes and keep off the youths,” said Alvin Nyamwaro.
Another youth Charles Mong’are added: “I condemn the reckless utterances by Onyonka whose aim is to demean Gusii youths. No one can force parties and leaders on us. We have a right to make a choice and he should know that,” he said.
Christine Kerubo on her part demanded that Onyonka makes a public apology and challenged youths from his constituency to teach him a lesson in 2017 polls.
“I want to challenge my fellow youths from Kitutu Chache South to teach him a lesson but the first thing I think he should do is the issuance of public apology,” she said.
However, Onyonka on Wednesday maintained that his remarks were not made in ‘bad faith’ and challenged youths to support the unity.
“I didn’t make the sentiments in bad faith. I only wanted them to get the core reasons as to why we need to be united,” he said in a phone call.
