Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka has dismissed claims by Jubilee administration that network provider Safaricom will not be able to transmit election results from several parts of the country.
Jubilee Party is plotting to have the laws amended to allow the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to use another ‘backup’ to transmit results in case the digital system fails.
Onyonka, who spoke to KTN on Tuesday, said Safaricom could be able to transmit results through a special satellite in areas not covered within its coverage.
“We cannot not accept nothing less that electronic transmission of results in 2017 polls. These theatrics of the failed regime to rig elections are unacceptable,” he said.
“Safaricom knows that it can use a satellite to transmit results from the said areas. The people of Kenya deserves much better than what we are seeing in our electoral system,” Onyonka said.
MPs allied to opposition had earlier blocked the Speaker’s procession from accessing Parliament arguing that the special sitting was illegal.
