Kakamega County Governor Wycliffe Ambetsa Oparanya has declared that he will contest for the presidency in the upcoming 2022 general elections.
He made the big announcement while addressing the congregation in Mumias Sports Complex grounds on Saturday 3rd March 2018 during the homecoming celebrations of Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Mohamed Echesa who comes from his county.
The Kakamega County Governor who is in his second and last term said: " Why do you mention Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetangula alone for the presidential race in 2022, do not leave me out because I will also be there."
This attracted an uproar and shouts from his supporters who have been waiting for long to hear that announcement.
Wycliffe Oparanya is the deputy party leader of Orange Democratic Movement party who is seeking to take over from Raila Amollo Odinga who is the current party leader if he retires from politics before the 2022 general elections.
He now becomes the third politician from western Kenya To declare an interest in the top seat in our republic.
The governor who succeeded to beat his Senator Boni Khalwale in the 2017 general election gubernatorial race has been shunning away from politics that has been taking place all over the country lately and his announcement came as a big shock to many.
