Kakamega governor Wycliffe Oparanya has accused Senator Boni Khalwale of orchestrating his political downfall through the Senate.
The Senate, through the Public Accounts and Investments Committee (PAIC) is seeking to have Oparanya barred from seeking re-election after he failed to appear before it to respond to audit queries.
Khalwale, who is also a member of PAIC is seeking to unseat governor Oparanya on a Ford Kenya Party ticket during the forthcoming general elections.
But speaking on Thursday, Oparanya accused the Senate of intimidating and targeting him unfairly.
“Senator Khalwale is sensing defeat and has decided to turn the Senate into his polling station to win the Kakamega governorship contest,” he said.
The Senate has since ordered the arrest of Oparanya, a move that the opposition governor has laughed off.
“I’m available at any time and if they want to arrest me let them give me a call and I will tell them where to find me,” he said.
