The decision by Raila Odinga to join NASA coalition was his worst mistake of the 'century' in politics, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has said.

Since then, the ODM party has technically bolted out of the coalition despite Musalia Mudavadi's persistent claims that the coalition is strong.

"NASA died after 2017 elections. It sabotaged ODM and made us lose quite a number of things,' he said.

Just days after the famous March 9 handshake between Raila and President Uhuru Kenyatta, NASA co-principals Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula accused Raila of insincerity.

But according to Oparanya, who also wants to run for 2022 polls, Raila's decision to tecnically leave NASA is welcome.

"The unity that Raila entered was wrong. It really affected ODM's dominance in certain regions. At the moment we could be enjoying a huge representation of elected members.

"Some of those parties caused unnecessary competition thus weakening us. It is now wanter under the bridge and it is time for us to revamp the party," he said.

Jubilee party won a number of seats in regions that were viewed as traditional ODM zones like in Western province.
