As you ponder on that let's take a look at the plight of Kenyan woman and what is being done to improve her place and life in society.

As the world celebrates yet another international women's day tomorrow, it is important to note that we are still far away from winning this fight against the plight of Kenyan woman.

A Kenyan woman is going through different hardship in our society today.

Rape cases that are settled traditionally are so rampant, FGM is still practiced despite its unhealthy effects, domestic violence among other vices.

As a nation, we are still recording dire statistics due to continued gender violence, limited women's participation in politics, less number of women in leadership positions, lack of enough women empowerment e.t.c.

Consequently, the Kenyan woman is believed to have been subjected to physical, sexual and psychological violence carried out by husbands, partners, and fathers.

This shows that the fight to end violence against women seems unwinnable fight.

According to a Nigerian campaigner against violence against women and children, Mercy Makinde, violence against women is deeply embedded in our culture because of the patriarchal nature of the society that stipulates that the husbands own the woman.

This has always been the source of abuse of the woman by a man.

So far, a lot needs to be done in order to make the society and a safe place to live in.

There is a need for constant advocacy, strong institutional support, and strong legal framework if we really need to reduce the gender gap, improve her life and safety in society.
