The official opening of the Volkswagen production line in Thika has been set for Wednesday, State House Spokesperson Manoah Esipisu has announced.
In a statement delivered on Sunday, Esipisu confirmed that the official opening of the plant will be presided over by President Uhuru Kenyatta. He further indicated that the plant will see the first Volkswagen car assembled in Kenya since the last four years.
"It is now evident that the government has put in place the right policies that provide the right environment for the growth of industries," Esipisu said.
"It therefore makes sense for this model, and Volkswagen South Africa, to lead the expansion into Africa as VW plans to create a new region for the Group in Africa," he added.
The opening of the plant looks to open up and exploit the East and Central Africa motor vehicle market.
