The distribution of relief foods in Dadaab camp has been delayed the go-slow entered its fifth day.  The host community wants several issues addressed by UNHCR with immediate effect.

According to a local daily, the distribution of the food was expected to kick off on December 1 to 8 in Hagadera, before the protests started, which raised security concerns.

There is no provision of health services at the camp following the protests. Several leaders have called for the replacement of the head of operations at the Dadaab refugee camp, Jean Bosco and his assistant Ivana Unluova before the operations can resume.

Led by Dmajale MCA Diriye Abdi, they have accused the duo of failure to consult other parties when running the activities at the camp. They said that the operations at the camp were smooth until the two took over leadership.

“We are telling UNHCR that it will not be business as usual with them as long as this man (Bosco) remains in office. We have had many heads of operations before who worked in harmony with our community and the local leadership, let them replace him,” Hussein said, as quoted by The Star.

UNHCR is expected to meet local leaders today in a bid to resolve the matter amicably.

MPs Mohamed Dahiye (Dadaab), Mohamud Omar (Wajir South) and Abdikarim Osman (Fafi), MCAs are expected to attend the meeting.
