Calm has been restored along Nairobi's Jogoo Road, after pupils of St Anne's Primary School demonstrated alongside their teachers, following an accident that saw their traffic helper, killed.

Martin Luganji is said to have been hit by an Embassava matatu, prompting the demonstrations that began at around 9am.

They barricaded a section of the busy Eastlands road, using rocks, as they sat and lied across the tarmarc, halting transport operations, in Mbotela.

Carrying "Stop Killing Us" placards, the pupils demanded to be addressed by governor Dr Evans Kidero.

However, some reports from witnesses said Luganji survived the accident, with parents and teachers demanding erection of traffic bumps.

Kidero later arrived at the scene of the accident, pleaded with the teachers to direct pupils back to school, and affirmed that he will oversee construction of traffic bumps, by end of business, today (Wednesday).

"I received a call saying there's trouble along Jogoo Road and that's why I've arrived here. Please let pupils to go back to school as we come there. And I assure you that engineers have already arrived to erect bumps as I watch, today," said Kidero.
