Operations have resumed at Dadaab Refugee Camps after being paralyzed following protests by locals against UNHCR.

Dadaab deputy county commissioner Haran Kamau said operations resumed after an agreement between the host community and UNHCR.

Kamau said most of the issues the locals demanded from UNHCR were met after a series of meetings.

The operations have been paralyzed for more than a week due to protests where the community accused the refugees of depleting the environment due to the cutting of trees and illegal burning of charcoal.

The locals claimed that local youths were ignored in terms of job employment.

Local leaders led by MPs and MCAs intervened for the operations to resume after UNHCR closed their offices because of security reasons of staff.

Talks will be ongoing as operations continue.
