The traders say the renovations will protect them from losses incurred especially due to the rains being experienced currently.

Martha Njeri, a vegetable seller in the market, said that when it rains the water leaks into their stalls, occasioning them great losses. This is because they are usually compelled to shut their business premises much earlier which has interfered with their expected targets of the day.

Another business owner at the market, Alexander Sila, said that mud and raw sewage spill over into the market forcing them out.

Sila, who sells tomatoes, is a father of three and decries that the county government should relocate the market to a place where they can be comfortable at all times despite the season.

However, apart from renovating the market, the operators are lamenting of being harassed by the county askaris whom they termed as greedy. They said anytime they are found alongside the market, they are arrested and made to pay a lot of money for them to be released.

John Karanja, a fruit vendor operating in the same market is of the opinion that the money they pay as tax should be set aside to build them an area where they can contentedly carry on their business daily.
