Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has said repeatedly that he will contest for the nation’s top post. The governor’s dream of ascending to power is still a subject of discussion. Although the governor can pull a surprise, there is more than what meets the eye.

Succession politics

NASA and Jubilee will still play an immense role in the 2022 politics.  Mutua has been supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto from the fence. Fence sitting is likely to cost Mutua the nation’s top seat. The county boss has to strategize how he will form an alliance with other leaders before he can ascend to power when that time comes.

Tribalism

The Luo, Kikuyu and Kalenjin communities are still dominant in the politics of this nation. The three communities have also believed that power belongs to them. The rest of the communities are struggling to prove their worth. Mutua must reach out to the communities before that time.

Party

Winning the presidency on a Maendeleo Chap Chap Movement ticket can be compared to a farfetched dream. Today, it is all about alliances. Mutua must reach out to other parties to form an alliance.

Development track record

Mutua’s impressive track record has made him a target from all fronts. The second term has become a threat to many leaders and their main agenda is finishing him politically. We have seen great leaders like Former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth end up losing presidential races despite impressive performance records.
