It is sad to hear complaints from concerned residents lamenting over water shortage and occasional interruptions in Garissa County each day.
It can never happen that the governor is in the dark as far as this issue is concerned.
Hearing of residents travelling for more than 10 kilometres to get only twenty litres of water is so sad. It is something that should never be happening in this century that devolution has been adopted with the intention of availing services to the public.
Governor Jama is the chief overseer in this county. He was entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring the locals get uninterrupted services. It is undoubted that there are some challenges, but water should not be a challenge. It is a basic need that needs to be prioritised at whatever cost.
Reports have emerged in several media platforms that there are individuals taking advantage of the crisis. Officials working at the Garissa Water and Sewerage Company should wake up from their deep sleep and realise that people need water. Livestock need water. Cooking needs water, water is life.
Recently, the county governor issued a notice to lazy staff in the county, and now it is a high time he cracks the whip on officials at the water board.
