The country is currently plunged in a mess that if not handled carefully, might lead to a crisis.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has been accused of lacking credibility and integrity to oversee the next general elections in 2017.
The opposition led by Cord has thus been staging anti-IEBC demonstrations in the country, in a bid to oust the commissioners from office.
Is this the best method Cord can use to disband the electoral body?
Is Cord also sure that this method will bare fruits in the long run?
If yes, the Cord brigade can march on but the definite answer to the two questions is no.
In 2007, the then electoral body Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK) was accused of lack of integrity, and the outcome was a national tragedy.
Lives were lost, people raped and maimed, and their properties looted.
People were also forcibly chased away from their homes leading to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) crisis.
The current trend in the country suggests that if the anti-IEBC protests continue being held and the electoral body is not reconstituted, then the country might plunge into a major crisis.
The country is already witnessing political tension between the government supporters and the opposition troop, and if this is not resolved, then the country may face more severe conditions than those witnessed in 2007.
The 2017 elections should be free and fair. This will help do away with political mistrust that can ruin the country socially, economically and in terms of development.
