Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and the Deputy President William Ruto have both shared their ambitions to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta once his second term comes to an end in 2022.
Both Joho and Ruto have been engaged in back and forth in the recent past and the two leaders have not been in the same page because of their political affiliations.
However, Joho should consider shelving his 2022 presidential ambitions and considering to work with Ruto as his deputy for the next general elections. At the moment, Ruto has a high chance of winning the presidential ticket for the Jubilee party and subsequently the 2022 elections.
For Joho, the leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party Raila Odinga has not yet clarified his 2022 political plans and this leaves him (Joho) in the dark. This only means Joho can form his own party to vie come 2022.
With a new party however, Joho stands a high chance of not making it considering he will require more time in popularizing the party and what it seeks to achieve for the people of Kenya if given a chance to lead.
On the other hand, Ruto will maximize his energy in clinching the presidential ticket of an already popular Jubilee party and then vigorously campaigning to win the 2022 presidential race.
To curb this, Joho should solve his differences with the DP and either join him at the Jubilee party or form his own political outfit and form a coalition with Ruto with a well spelt out succession plan.
As Ruto's DP in 2022 and beyond, Joho can embark in popularizing himself with Kenyans from different areas as well popularizing his political outfit.
As DP, a wider range of Kenyans will also get to assess his (Joho's) capabilities of managing resources of the country and decide if he gets to succeed Ruto in case their partnership clinches the 2022 elections.
