Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho is expected to lead a team of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leaders in a tour of Kajiado and Kisumu Counties.
The move is aimed at marketing ODM in the said areas ahead of the 2017 elections.
I strongly disagree with the Kisumu rally decision because it will not have a great contribution to Raila Odinga's campaign.
With less than a year to the general elections, Joho should venture into Jubilee strongholds like central Kenya and the North Rift.
If the rallies are aimed at ensuring that Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) principal Raila Odinga is elected; Kisumu should be the last campaign destination.
There are prominent local politicians who are able and willing to consolidate Raila's support in this region.
Senator James Orengo (Siaya), Anyang' Nyong'o (Kisumu) and Jakoyo Midiwo are some of the ambassadors that can preach the gospel of Raila in Kisumu with vigor and passion.
Joho is a gem that needs to be utilized in sensitive regions like Eldoret.
The deputy ODM party leader has to strategize how his captain will garner votes from Gatundu and Uasin Gishu.
He has to face Jubilee front men like a wounded lion.
Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko, Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, MPs Aden Duale (Garissa Town) and Moses Kuria (Gatundu South) all need to be tamed.
The sole responsibility of doing so lies on Joho's shoulders.
He has to direct his efforts in these areas and leave Kisumu to homegrown politicians.
