Former vice President and Wiper party patron Kalonzo Musyoka is the best flag-bearer that the National Super Alliance (NASA) should pick after its formation.
Musyoka stands a better chance of smoking Jubilee out of office than the other competitors. He will compete with ODM’s political pro-Raila Odinga, Ford Kenya's Moses Wetangula, Amani National Congress patron Musalia Mudavadi and KANU presidential hopeful Gideon Moi.
Kalonzo is the surest bet for NASA if the dream of ending the corruption decorated Jubilee regime is to be realized. He presents a neutral option that will be accepted nationally.
Gideon Moi is viewed as not mature enough politically and lacks a national outlook. On the hand, Wetangula does not have control over the entire western region.
He faces competition from the nationally recognized Mudavadi. Mudavadi could be a reliable alternative but his political history betrays him. Musalia also has a tough task of convincing Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) supporters about his real intentions.
The timing of the union appears to be egocentric which comes after endless struggles with the government that Mudavadi did not participate. Getting full support is a tough task for him.
Another opponent is Raila Odinga. He has done a lot for this country but his radical approach to issues make many to fear his regime. Those who have mistreated him during his service as an opposition chief will invest all their fortunes to curtail Raila’s presidential bid.
Apart from the “water melon branding” and the “your name betrays you” comments, Kalonzo is the man NASA should settle on if they want to triumph in the next polls.
