Human rights activism and politics are two close fields but with opposing ideologies. Activism encompasses fighting to protect civilians from gross violations of their basic privileges enshrined in the constitution.

On the other hand, politics, especially in the Kenyan setting, has mistakenly been interpreted as a playground to exploit the helpless electorate.

In light of this, I think Garissa women rep hopeful Fatuma Kinsi is better being in active activism than politics. She has been very vibrant in advocating for women, girls' and youth issues across the county, and therefore, her place in active politics will prove a big blow to the activism arena.

Her latest recognition in London for her efforts in 'With And For Girls' championship in the Pastoralist Girls Initiative (PGI) indicates that she is just a gifted activist.

This notwithstanding, her presence in the Garissa political space could also be a game changer since activism and good governance are twin establishments.

As expected, politicians are the champions to advocate for service to the electorate,  but many of them have disregarded the call. However, the power rests in the Garissa electorate to place Kinsi in active politics or the activism field.
