A local political activist and businessman James Kaka observed this during an interview with our reporter in his office on Tuesday.

According to Kaka, many local opinion leaders fail to disseminate important matters of public interest, because they lack a platform on which they can use to propagate public opinion agenda.

The activist suggested that local opinion leaders should form organizations that will bring them together to share ideas and opinions concerning public interest matters, and for them to actively contribute to the shaping of awareness and public opinion on topical issues.

“Our local opinion leaders must come together and form forums where they can help shape public opinion and awareness on tangible issues in the county, country and community level.

“We are not playing the role we ought to play in serving society as the calling requires informing grassroots citizens consistently on arising matters affecting their lives politically and socio-economically,” said Kaka.

He further added that lack of opinion leaders’ forums has adversely affected awareness and public opinion on matters of great public concern.

He suggested that local opinion leaders should actively participate in the County Assembly and national parliament debates, in order for them to grasp and monitor the performances of the institutions.
