There has been pressure on Mama Ngilu to drop her gubernatorial bid but those advocating for the forceful change of mind are violating her democratic right.

The two Kitui legislatures want former CS Charity Ngilu to go for the senatorial seat and support Senator David Musila’s gubernatorial ambition.

Speaking in Kitui Rural constituency, area MP Charles Nyamai and Kitui West MP Francis Nyenze pledged to support Ngilu only if she dances to their tune.

Mr Nyenze accused the incumbent governor Julius Malombe of losing the grassroots touch. Nyamai recognized the political significance of the two but demanded a MoU.

“It is no doubt that Ngilu and Musila are political forces to reckon with but to unseat Malombe, they must reach a common ground whereby Ngilu runs for senator while backing Musila for the governorship,” Nyamai said.

During this campaign, Musila said that his main aim is to guard county funds.

“My desire to run for the governorship was driven by misplaced priorities in implementing development projects. Huge monies have been directed to projects that bear no direct benefit for the locals,” said Musila.

This move is a deliberate effort to kill democracy. Competitive politics must be encouraged at all costs as opposed to the endorsement buzz.

Mama Ngilu has a right to vie for any position she deems fit for her. She represents the ever disadvantaged women.
