A section of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) members on Saturday endorsed Mombasa Woman Rep Mishi Mboko to battle for the Likoni parliamentary seat.
While making his endorsement, ODM Director of Elections Junet Mohamed said Mboko is the right candidate to stir development in different parts of the constituency.
However, Mboko’s endorsement has stirred a storm in the party with some members arguing that Junet made the wrong decision.
Junet needs to understand that there are other ODM candidates eying the same seat.
A section of leaders from various parts of the nation had earlier warned Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho against endorsing any candidate.
Junet’s remarks are a clear indication that he has not learnt from ODM leaders past mistakes.
Endorsements have frustrated many loyal ODM supporters.
The electorate should choose who should contest for any seat and not an individual.
As much as Mboko remains one of the forces to reckon with when it comes to the Likoni seat, others contestants equally have qualities that cannot be ignored.
ODM has in the past lost potential leaders because of this idea of endorsement.
It is high time leaders of this movement learnt from their mistakes before it’s too late.
