Meru county chief Peter Munya has been at 'political pains' to disassociate himself from Raila's rather opportunistic endorsement for his (Munya) second term in office.

In his tour of Meru county, Raila alongside other NASA luminaries heaped praise on Munya and lauded his 'steadfast' support for devolution.

But....

The Council of Governors chairman is in a titanic battle with Meru De facto political kingpin for the gubernatorial race.

A point to note is that Kiraitu is also the blue-eyed boy of President Uhuru Kenyatta and one of the co-founders of Jubilee Party.

So where does this leave us?

Meru region is considered the stronghold of the ruling Jubilee coalition and therefore any association with NASA is considered political suicide.

It is on this understanding that Munya, who declined to merge PNU with other Jubilee parties, has emerged guns blazing at Raila's endorsement.

The governor was quick to remind Kenyans that his support for Uhuru's second term remains intact and that at no time has he ever been in bed with the NASA coalition.

This is a tactic that political pundits concur is meant to deny his critics more arsenal to disparage his character for the benefit of the 'politically correct' Kiraitu Murungi.
