Recruitment into the National Youth Service (NYS) has had challenges since its interception.
The adoption of new system to monitor the ongoing NYS recruitment is just but a milestone of hope among Kenyans and participants that the process would be free, fair and transparent.
NYS has been a source of hope for most young men and women in Kenya as it goes towards helping them fulfil their dream of getting a job one day. We have seen many cases where qualified candidates miss this opportunities because there were not able to bribe recruiting officers.
There have been many cases of favouritism, corruption and bribery in past recruitments, however, this challenge is not to NYS alone but even other national recruitments for instance the last police recruitment whose results have since been cancelled due to cases of corruption.
It would be helpful if the system can be adopted by other departments when carrying out recruitment exercises to ensure fairness and transparency as the system automatically updates the new recruit’s personal details into the system.
Thumbs up to Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru for the good work towards ensuring equity and equality in hiring of new NYS recruits by launching a system that shall monitor the process.
The rebranding of NYS to ensure its effectiveness and productivity is worth celebrating towards realising a better society and Kenya’s Vision 2030.
