Joho’s recent appointment to spearhead Orange Democratic Movement’s (ODM) campaigns, which is the strongest party in the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (Cord), places him in a better position to retain his seat in the next general election.

Despite facing various political challenges during his career, Joho has remained one of the most powerful leaders in the Coast region.

His close relationship with former Prime Minister and CORD leader Raila Odinga makes it difficult to unseat him in the Mombasa gubernatorial race.

Raila is a kingmaker. Most of the leaders who have walked with him have risen to become forces to reckon with in the political arena.

Joho's recent remarks at political rallies have made him appear more powerful than CORD co-principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula.

The outspoken governor has taken Kenya’s political arena by storm, which is among the reasons why Omar is not likely to unseat him in 2017.

Although Omar is among the most influential leaders at Coast , smoking Joho out of office will not be an easy day, if the current situation is anything is to go by.
