The opposition has found a financially viable supporter in a controversial Meru businessman Paul Kobia but his move has to be watched keenly.
The former Uhurumaniac announced that he is leading his Ameru community in deserting Jubilee due to negligence by government. What amazes me is how easily Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has welcomed Kobia.
Are they wetting their tongues for his money, attracted by his ideologies or looking for cheap national acceptance publicity? The opposition should be aware of Kobia’s exceptional loyalty to President Kenyatta.
Despite the fact that there are no permanent political enemies, spying is a central political pillar. What has changed in ODM and Raila Odinga that Kobia did not see previously? He is the man who warned everyone including Raila Odinga about correcting the president.
He bulldozes in everything and the latest events prove that he gets what he wants whenever he feels like. Let the opposition be smart and alert because “even the prison is not safe.”
While announcing his defection via a video recording Kobia said, “I want to work with Cord/NASA. And it’s not just me. Merus have told me that they want to leave Jubilee and it’s like they have already left. We’ve been in Jubilee since 2013 and the president has been away for 14 months. Why is that the president is only coming to Meru to hunt for votes? The president has big projects in Mombasa, Kisumu and elsewhere. Why is it that we Merus who vote for him have no project. Merus are not blind. We’re no longer in Jubilee because we were lied to. We only have one CS. And we’re the principals for Jubilee after Central and Rift Valley. Where are the Merus in the government?”
