Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho, who is also the ODM deputy party leader, will have limited political positions come 2022, if Rail Odinga will vie for the presidency again.

Ali Hassan Joho is in office for his last term as the governor of Mombasa County. This is because the constitution of Kenya does not allow him to vie for the same position for the third time consecutively.

Joho has been heard in recent times talking of going for the presidency come 2022, he has expressed his desire to go for the higher office, in an ODM ticket. This dream will be invalid if the ODM party leader, Raila Odinga, will still vie for the same.

If Raila Odinga's name will be on the ballot paper in 2022, then Ali Hassan Joho will have to go for the following political and nonpolitical  positions:

1. Raila's running mate

For a very long time, the coast region has not produced a strong candidate for the presidency nor the deputy, this will be a big move if it materializes. It will be a nice move for Joho in his 'search' for the higher offices outside his county, Mombasa.

2. Presidency

It is still possible for Hassan Joho to go for the highest office in 2022. If Raila Odinga cannot let Joho lead the way through the ODM ticket, Joho can team up with other coast leaders to form their party, so that with their support he can try his luck for the highest office.

3. Mombasa senator

Even if this position is not given much considerations, Joho can still go for it so that he remains active in politics, with roles to keep him engaged, as he waits for 2027 to come.

4. Cabinet secretary

If ODM can win the presidential race in 2022 with Joho as the deputy party leader, and no other political position, probably he will be appointed as the CS in one of the big ministries. This is because Joho has supported ODM in all means. He has stood with Raila Odinga in so many occasions, including the recent one, the controversial swearing in ceremony
