Nairobi governor Evans Kidero is now four years in office and critics say his administration has been characterised by miscalculations and blunders that might cost him the next elections.

The first major mistake Governor Kidero committed was to openly detach himself from the electorate who put him in office. As a result, his political presence has never been felt on the ground.

Similarly, the city is choking under the heavy burden of solid wastes. Major streets, markets areas, playgrounds and low-income residential areas such as Kibera are littered and the stench is much unbearable even as Kidero's government struggles to manage the thousands of tonnes of waste generated each day.

Furthermore, heavy traffic jams have evidently continued to be the other major concern in the city. The only thing that the Kidero government has done is to increase parking fees to heap troubles to the low-earning city dwellers.

The city boss has also failed to tame his askaris from terrorising residents. They (askaris) have been widely accused of kidnapping, maiming, torturing and even murdering residents.

But what will ultimately ruin his political career is his pride and arrogance. He must learn never to draw his claws every time he is provoked. It is much beneficial in politics to appear vulnerable at times.
