One of the strongest political battles is expected in Siaya County as three of the County's political bigwigs have announced plans to square it out for the gubernatorial race.
The incumbent governor Cornel Rasanga may be given a run for his money with the entry of one of the Country's most iconic political figure, Senator James Orengo.
Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo who is also the chairman of the National assembly Public Accounts Committee (PAC), also wants to replace Rasanga whose controversial leadership style is becoming his greatest political undoing and liability.
William Oduol who faced Rasanga in 2013 is also in line to challenge the incumbent once again. He has the blessings and support of Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo who has been a fierce critic of Rasanga.
Oduol lost to Rasanga by slim margin of 4,000 votes.
However, Rasanga's closeness to Dr Oburu Odinga, ODM leader Raila Odinga's elder brother, is expected to give him political leverage and advantage over others who are out to fight out for the party's nomination certificate.
Orengo who is one of the Country's seasoned politicians, is expected to complicate Rasanga's hopes as he is considered Raila's right-hand man.
Furthermore, he is one of the most popular politicians in the County and Nyanza region.
The truth is that whoever gets the ODM ticket will be assured of victory. But how will the nominations be conducted so that credibility and favoritism questions are now raised? Time will tell.
