Nearly eight months after he shocked many by joining President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Party in the run to the October 26, 2017 repeat presidential election, former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar is still languishing in the political cold despite being promised a job when he ditched Kalonzo Musyoka's Wiper Party for the ruling party.
Even in Uhuru's latest government appointments, the former Senator who lost to Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho in the gubernatorial race is nowhere to be seen with his fellow poll losers making the cut.
Before that, the former Wiper Secretary General was seen as a favorite from the region to make it to the new cabinet.
From Gideon Mung'aro to Kazungu Kambi to Suleiman Shahbal to Zainabu Chidzuga and Amina Abdalla, nearly all key Jubilee figures in the region have made a comeback with key state appointments.
But for Omar, the latest snub may further dent his political career which suffered a blow with the August 8 loss.
With key government positions now filled, it remains unclear what the future holds for Omar in the Jubilee Party. Will Uhuru and his Deputy William Ruto finally come to the rescue of their once biggest political catch in the region?
