President Uhuru Kenyatta conspicuously omitted former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, celebrated trade unionist Tom Mboya and Kenya's first Prime Minister Oginga Odinga from the list of national heroes.

This omission has caused a public uproar from several quotas.

Some believe the president is attempting to mutilate Kenyan history while many think that this proves how Uhuru supports tribalism and cheap family rivalry.

However, neglecting Oginga Odinga who helped his father to be Kenya's first president and the selfless Tom Mboya who did a lot for Kenya was the only grave mistake.

Raila's case was what any egocentric leader would have gone for.

President Uhuru chose to be politically right as opposed to uttering the bitter truth for personal gain.

Despite the sacrifices Raila has made for the sake of a better Kenya; the president's advisors saw it fit to avoid mentioning him during this national event because Raila is Uhuru's tested immediate and fiercest opponent.

They all understand Raila's role in fighting for multiparty democracy and devolution among many other issues.

However, including his opponent on this list could have been a political mistake.

A section of voters could have seen it as an endorsement which Jubilee were not ready to stomach.

As we accuse President Kenyatta for his divisive speech, let's think about the interests of those around him.
