The recent Uhuru-Raila political truce has given Deputy President William Ruto an opportunity to make inroads in the Coast even as he assembles his political machinery ahead of 2022 elections where he is the front runner to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Governor Joho also harbours Presidential ambitions. However, for him, the new Ruto wave in the region may handicap his ambitious political shot especially if he does not act quickly.

The last two days have been very eventful in Coast politics with key Joho allies throwing their weight behind Ruto in the 2022 presidential contest.

Firebrand Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa's statement that the DP is best-suited to take over from President Kenyatta is an indicator that all is not well for the Mombasa County boss.

Just a few weeks ago, Jumwa was one of the main figures of anti-government crusade in the region. But times change. And for Joho, he must rethink his political strategy if his State House dream is to become a reality.
