The incumbent governor of Machakos county may beat his immediate opponents Hon Wavinya Ndeti and his deputy governor Benard Kiala without a struggle by what the residents and staunch supporters of the governor term as self-destruction mode.
According to Mutua's supporters, Wavinya's Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) is a self-proclaimed stronghold party in the Athi River parts of the county where Ndeti hails from while Kalonzo's Wiper Democratic Movement garners full support in Matuu and Kangundo regions.
Out of the possible 400 000 registered voters in the county, Mutua who commands the rest of Machakos save for the three a fore-mentioned regions may as well garner at least 200 001 votes without a strain of campaigns but with a possibility of turning tables round if he tried more.
The remaining 199 999 votes remain for Wavinya Ndeti and Benard Kiala to share if they so wish with a possibility of yet another opponent emerging to share the same.
If, as many have feared, Hon Wavinya takes Kiala for her running mate in the gubernatorial quest, they still can't battle it out with Mutua who is rumored to replace Kiala with a running mate from the same region as Kiala.
