Let us face the truth. The opposition needs Rift valley votes to win 2017 elections. Rift valley is inhabited mainly by Kalenjins and Kikuyus.
Rift valley is sub-divided into the great North Rift and the great South rift regions. For the opposition to grab Rift Valley votes, they need to woo their (Rift valley) kingpin, the deputy president William Ruto.
As things stand right now, this is virtually impossible. How then can the opposition grab the vote-rich Rift valley? This is where the National super alliance, NASA comes in.
If the talks by Bomet governor Isaac Ruto and senator Gideon Moi are anything to go by, then the opposition can slice a big chunk of Rift valley votes if the two agree to be part of NASA.
Add that to Western votes brought in by Mudavadi and Moses Wetang'ula. Nyanza votes brought in by Raila Odinga. Eastern votes by Kalonzo Musyoka. Coast votes by Hassan Joho and Omar Hassan.
Add 50% of Nairobi votes and even 40% of North Eastern votes and the deal is done.
