Despite increasing rebellion in his Rift Valley backyard, Deputy President William Ruto insists that he remains the de facto leader of the Kalenjin community.

With his 2022 presidential chances hanging on balance, Ruto is fighting insurgency spearheaded by Baringo senator Gideon Moi and Bomet Governor Isaac Rutto who have often accuse dhim of dictatorship.

And during stopovers at Elgeyo-Marakwet and West Pokot Counties with President Uhuru Kenyatta, Ruto urged locals to only vote for Jubilee candidates in August elections.

“Rift Valley remains intact with one central command. Those trying to push us right, left and centre should prepare for exit from active politics.

“Jubilee government has offered best leadership and I am confident that as people, you will reelect us. Ensure you also vote only Jubilee candidates,” said a visibly angry Ruto.

Although KANU had signed a pre-election pact with Jubilee government, Ruto’s utterances have in the past caused wrangles with the independence party threatening to pull out.

Facing a real risk of losing seats in his backyard, the DP has never been also kind with CCM leader Isaac Rutto whose growing influence in South Rift counties to cause jitters in Jubilee campaign team.
