Ruto claims that some people are being lured into signing the referendum papers by being told they will be allocated land in the county.

“We are already investigating such claims. We received reports that some politicians from the opposition were telling Kenyans that they will be given huge parcels of land if they append their signatures for the referendum,” he added.

Ruto, who was speaking at Enashipai Hotel in Naivasha, said those collecting the signatures were targeting the illiterate in the area, who ended up signing for things they did not agree to.

He warned such politicians that they risked arrest.

“We are appealing to Kenyans to be on the lookout as there is no such promise. Kenyans are so desperate for land and some politicians are taking advantage of this,” he cautioned.

Ruto claimed they had already received complaints from members of the public who felt that they were tricked.

“Many people have raised the alarm saying that they did not even know what they were signing for,” he added.
