Deputy President William Ruto has likened Cord's anti-IEBC demonstrations to Al-Shabaab attacks.
Speaking in a live interview with Citizen TV on Tuesday, Ruto said the demos by opposition coalition were as disastrous as attacks by the militia group because they achieved similar results.
"Al-Shabaab attacks are meant to instill fear in the country and scare away investors. They aim to create a state of insecurity and destruction of property thus sabotaging the economy. What Cord is achieving is similar," he said.
Ruto accused the opposition coalition of being dishonest in their call for IEBC disbandment and asked them to follow constitutional means.
He maintained that the government was ready to hold dialogue but insisted that the talks must follow a predictable legal framework.
The two leading coalitions have continued to take strong stands over the IEBC impasse which has prompted the opposition to threaten increasing the time they hold demonstrations to two days a week.
Elsewhere, the government through Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery said on Tuesday that they will not allow any more demonstrations by Cord due to what he termed as a chaotic nature they come with.
