The decision by Kakamega senator Bonny Khalwale to put four caps on opposition leader Raila Odinga’s head at Bomas on Wednesday was an indirect endorsement as opposition presidential flag bearer, political analyst Nyachio Bogonko has said.
With only seven months to elections, the opposition team is yet to settle on a single candidate to take on President Uhuru Kenyatta.
And Bogonko says Wednesday’s meeting hinted that Odinga will be the flag bearer and it was only a matter of time before he is unveiled.
“I was very keen and I can tell for sure that whatever Khalwale did was a symbolic move to show their supporters had faith in Raila Odinga,” he said.
“They also allowed him to speak the last as a sign of how he still holds opposition intact. After all, I do not see a worthy candidate who can shake Jubilee government in this year’s polls,” he added.
During the meeting, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka reiterated that despite numerous sacrifices he has made in his political life, he is ready to endorse another opposition candidate this year other than himself.
