The National Super Alliance (NASA) has termed KANU's decision to back President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election bid as a "unfortunate and blow" to the Opposition.

Speaking on Thursday during an interview with Citizen TV, ODM Party National Chair John Mbadi conceded that the former ruling party could have played an integral role should it have joined forces with NASA.

"I would not say that KANU joining Jubilee is not a big deal to us [Nasa]. If they joined us, we would have been happier," he said.

"As to if it is going to affect us, that depends on how we conduct our campaigns," the Suba MP added.

The legislator, however, stated that KANU's decision did not surprise the Opposition, adding that developments within the party in the recent past were enough evidence that it was not committed to joining NASA.

KANU Secretary General Nick Salat had in the past indicated that the party was firmly in the Opposition.
