Garissa Township MP hopeful Farah Maalim has told opposition supporters to keep calm and wait to celebrate victory after the August election.
He said the unity that has been exhibited by opposition leaders for the last five years is prove of victory after the fourth coming poll.
The opposition is currently constituted by NASA principals Raila Odinga (ODM), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Moses Wetangula (Ford Kenya) and Isaac Ruto (CCM).
Mudavadi and Ruto joined Raila, Kalonzo and Wetangula who participated in the 2013 general election under the Cord umbrella.
“They recited songs telling us how we will disintegrate as opposition. Let us remain united as we wait for our victory,” he said.
Deputy President William Ruto after the 2013 general election had said Raila and Kalonzo would not stick together because Raila violated the MoU the two leaders signed ahead of the last election.
The MoU had stated Raila would back Kalonzo’s presidential bid in 2017. This did not pass following a survey carried out by a special team appointed by the opposition revealed that Raila stood a better chance of winning against President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2017.
To the surprise of many, Mudavadi, who contested the 2013 poll and received less than 500,000 votes also joined Raila, Wetangula and Kalonzo strengthening the opposition further.
Maalim who spoke in Garissa town during a door-to-door campaign said he would join other opposition leaders in the county to marshal support for the NASA coalition and ensure it scoops majority votes. He is challenging Parliament Majority Leader Aden Duale.
