Opposition leader Raila Odinga has welcomed the Court of Appeal ruling that freed the jailed doctors' union officials.
Speaking on Wednesday shortly after the landmark ruling, Raila accused the state of using the courts to intimidate the striking doctors, further challenging the government to amicably resolve the impasse.
"We welcome the decision of the court and urgethe government to take appropriate steps to resolveall strikes currently ongoing with speed," the Star quoted him.
"Jailing our doctors is dehumanising. It is not right to take doctors to Kamiti prison. It's a shame and Kenyans have a right to elect another government in 2017," added the former prime minister.
Cord co-principal and Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka was also present.
The Court of Appeal ruling precedes an appeal by opposition lawyers who challenged the sentencing of the KMPDU officials on Monday for contempt of court.
The striking medics are calling for the full implementation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) signed between them and the government in 2013.
