Senate Minority Leader James Orengo on Tuesday ignited the controversial constitutional amendment debate in Mombasa, a move that saw DP William Ruto responding instantly.

While the ODM party has been pushing for introduction of parliamentary system, Ruto has however dismissed the move as 'unnecessary development saboteur'.

In his brife speech, Orengo said: "Sometimes before you kill a messenger, try to get the content of his message."

"It is sad that when I say that the country needs to amend the law, some people for instance the DP will judge me as Orengo and not the content of my message."

And while addressing the conference convened by MCAs, Ruto accused those fighting for constitutional changes as 'idlers' who want to sneak to power through backdoor.

Instead, he said,  should the country tolerate the changes, it should involve all people and not few individuals who are power hungry.

"I want to tell Orengo that only idlers will push for changes which do not involve the people. They want to use backdoor means to get power. We should discourage such schemes," he said.

More often than not, Ruto has always seized an opportunity to launch scathing attack on Raila Odinga, whom he accuses of plotting to sabotage his 2022 bid.
