Despite his harsh criticism on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, lawyer James Orengo has come into the defense of the commission over its conduct in Siaya governorship.
Appearing for governor Amoth Rasanga in a case challenging his victory at Kisumu High Court, Orengo termed IEBC as a credible body.
"IEBC conducted elections in a free, fair and transparent manner on August 8 elections," he said in defense of his client, in a case filed by Nicholas Gumbo.
For the first time, Orengo made to to history books for being a lead lawyer in a case that saw nullification of President Uhuru Kenyatta's victory, the first of its kind in Africa.
In recent weeks, Orengo has been a crusader of anti- IEBC demonstrations and is on record for asking chairman Wafula Chebukati to resign.
"All those who were elected including me and my clients were elected genuinely and fairly and for those who lost, lost fairly."
Although he was in the line of duty, his good riddance towards IEBC elicited online debate with some social media users accusing him of double standards.
The electoral body has been on the receiving end with opposition leaders accusing it of partiality in execution of duties.
