Siaya Senator James Orengo insists that the date for 2017 elections must remain intact even with delayed replacement of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
This comes moments after the IEBC selection committee rejected names of individuals who had applied to replace Isaac Hassan on grounds that they had not been cleared by Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission.
On Saturday, Orengo accused Jubilee administration of plotting to have August 2017 elections postponed on basis of unpreparedness.
“Election dates cannot be changed and the government should know that. We cannot allow a regime to stay in power contrary to the constitution and that is an assurance from me,” he said.
“Jubilee must be ready for the elections failure to which we will forcefully eject them. The constitution cannot be flouted in our presence and they know that,” Orengo said.
Orengo further called for expeditious replacement of IEBC officials to give room for free and transparent elections.
