Siaya Senator James Orengo has finally come out to clear the air on his role in the decision by the National Super Alliance (NASA) to withdraw from October 26 repeat presidential election.

Orengo had been accused of misleading opposition leader Raila Odinga to boycott the poll and thus wasting his 'final bullet'.

A top NASA official had told a local daily that Orengo had taken the lead in convincing the former Prime Minister that the boycott was foolproof and would force a postponement of the elections.

It is after this, the official said, Raila decided to pull out and 'forced' other principals; Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang'ula into backing it.

But speaking to Saturday Nation, Orengo dismissed the claims saying the decision to boycott elections was agreed upon by the entire NASA leadership.

"I attended numerous meeting between the co-principals and detected no hint of disagreements. The decision (to boycott), just like any other, was made after consensus," he said.

On the current reports of division in the opposition over the plans to swear in Raila and Kalonzo on January 30, Orengo termed them as propaganda from opponents meant to derail NASA's push for electoral reforms.

"Those saying there is disagreement in the coalition are getting it wrong. The bigger question is electoral justice and on this, there is consensus across the board that this must be addressed. There are no cracks in the coalition," the Senator maintained.
