Siaya Senator James Orengo has remembered historical days when fighting with his Meru Counterpart Kiraitu Murungi for introduction of pluralism in the country.
The two were crucial of retired president Daniel Moi’s regime and were frequent guests of the infamous Nyayo chambers for opposing the government of the day.
But on Thursday during a special senate sitting, Orengo warned that if Kiraitu votes for the controversial election laws amendments, it could water down his credibility as a freedom fighter.
“I will be shocked if Kiraitu Murungi, whom we worked together to fight impunity in this nation votes in favour of this draconian Bill. He will lose the credibility as one of those who stood against impunity,” he said.
However, in a quick rejoinder, Murungi said the Standing orders of the House allowed him to vote according to his consciousness.
Orengo was rooting to rejection of the Bill which allows IEBC to use manual voting as an alternative backup to electronic voting in which the senate was expected to take a vote later on, on Thursday.
